When Carl A. Johnson moved to Idaho Falls with his wife Maria, Idaho Falls had just 1200 residents. The Johnsons purchased one of two water operated mills, and established Johnson Brothers in 1905. Two of the eight children, Adolf and Ernest, managed the business while their siblings pursued other endeavors. The Great Depression brought Eno back to the family business in 1936. During the Depression, Johnson Brothers worked on government buildings, schools, churches, service stations and other businesses.  In 1939 Adolph bought out Ernest and partnered with Eno.  In the 40’s Adolph sold his interest to Gene Johnson, Fred’s son. The original water wheel was converted to electric in the 1960’s, and the original shaft with drive wheels remain in the basement, and are available for public viewing. Gene and Eno were partners till Gene’s death in 1970. Upon’s Gene’s death David L. Sargis, Gene’s grandson, took over as general manager. Currently Johnson Brothers is owned by David L. Sargis and his brothers Eno “EJ” and Lindsay.
