Green Statement
Johnson Brothers strives to balance environmental, social, and economic impacts. We strive to continuously improve and refine our balance. Here are some of the environmental initiatives that currently have in place.
- We encourage all of our clients to utilize quality products that will help them build to last. By constructing longer lasting buildings, together we can reduce overall environmental impacts.
- We recycle most of our sawdust and hardwood waste.
- We strive to minimize production wastes through new technologies like computerized materials optimization, and encourage our employees to minimize waste.
- Thirty percent of our electricity comes from renewable hydroelectric generation.
- Our production and sales facilities maximize solar access, and utilize skylights to illuminate work areas.
- During the summer months, we use natural ventilation in our production facility.
- During the summer months, we halt production prior to peak energy demand in the region.
- We promote recycled lumber products like Trex decking, energy efficient windows and doors, skylights and other responsible building products.
- We carry wood products that are from sustainable forests, we are FSC* certified (chain of custody certificate # SCS-COC-001583).
- We can use low VOC (volatile organic compound) lumber products to meet building standards of our clients.
- Our new moulding facility utilizes efficient radiant floor heating.
- We strive to coordinate deliveries so the truck/trailers are at minimum 80% capacity.
- We provide secure bicycle storage for employees.
- Johnson Brothers upgraded older fluorescent T12 fixtures with more efficient T8 fixtures. This is projected to save 49,253 kWh/year.
*FSC stands for Forest Stewardship Council; it is a 3rd party verified chain of custody program that helps ensure that wood products come from sustainable forests.
